The Christian Recovery Radio with
Dick B. Show is much more than just a radio show. On its Web site www.ChristianRecoveryRadio.com
and on the radio show itself, we have a new way of condensing and reporting
three important foci: (1) What can we tell you that will serve and glorify God;
and help the alcoholics, addicts, and those with other life-controlling
problems overcome their suffering. (2) What can we show you about the long
history—much of it before A.A. was founded in June 1935—of how suffering people
have turned to God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Bible through the centuries to
overcome their maladies and conquer them successfully. (3) How Christians in
recovery today can share their experience, strength, and hope derived from
their relationship with God, and prevent an ever-broadening, “universalized”
recovery community from shoving God and the victory out the door.
Introduction
Today, Dick B.’s son
Ken will be discussing how the www.ChristianRecoveryRadio.com Web site came into being and why. The
site was established following two conferences of the International Christian
Recovery Coalition (www.ChristianRecoveryCoalition.com) held in Southern California in January 2012
at The Crossing Church in Costa Mesa (hosted by Pastor Randy Moraitis), and
subsequently at His Place Church in Westminster (hosted by Pastor Joe Fury).
Ken will talk about
Dick B.’s dream of interviewing Christian leaders and workers in the recovery
arena from around the world—individuals he has met during the course of his 23
years of research on the roles played by God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the
Bible in early A.A.’s astonishing successes. Successes among
“seemingly-hopeless,” “medically-incurable,” “last-gasp-case,” “real”
alcoholics who thoroughly followed the original Akron A.A. “Christian fellowship”
program.
And how Dick’s dream
has been realized in the form of the “Christian Recovery Radio with Dick B.”
show which has archived more than 50 episodes since the show began on May 29,
2012.
Ken will also
discuss the two video classes available on the Web site: (1) “Introductory
Foundations for Christian Recovery”; and (2) “Stick with the Winners!” In
addition, he will discuss the free Dick B. videos—including those from the
“DickBChannel” on YouTube—and the free Dick B. audio talks available on the www.ChristianRecoveryRadio.com Web site. And finally, he will tell about
the talks by attorney Russell S. of Miami, Florida—these illustrating in great
detail how a person may speak about Jesus Christ and the Bible in hiw own
relationship with God (See Alcoholics
Anonymous, 4th ed., page 29).

What Ken Talked About
This talk with
acquaint you with Dick B.’s dream of having a radio presentation that would
bring to the world the knowledge of dozens of experienced AAs, Christian
recovery leaders and workers, physicians, clergy, recovery pastors,
researchers, historians, and 12-Step outreach people who have fostered the
growing Christian Recovery Movement of the past 25 years. The talk will also
tell you the origins of the Christian Recovery Radio effort. And it will show
you the action that has thus far produced more than 50 radio shows and a host
of other recovery resources—audio talks, videos, talks by Dick B. on A.A. and
the 12 Steps and the original program, and the “new era of A.A. history” which
at long last brings to public view the importance of the State of Vermont, the
Christian upbringing of A.A.’s cofounders in Vermont, and the remarkable growth
of A.A. in Cleveland in 1939 just after Bill Wilson published his “new version”
of the program in the form of the Big Book and Twelve Steps.

B.’s first interview in which he spoke with Rev. Michael Liimatta of Kansas
City on May 29, 2012—the man who helped get the radio show on the air. They include
interviews of Bonnie B. who is the manager of the Wilson House in Vermont; and
of Ray G. who was, for many years, the archivist at Dr. Bob’s Home in Akron,
and who brought historical exhibits to conferences and meetings all over the
United States.

Miami, who just chaired the February 8-9, 2013, www.CrossFlorida.org Conference in Miami; Karen Plavan, Ph.D., Chair of International
Christian Recovery Coalition, head of the Oasis Center in Pittsburgh, and

alcoholics, Christians in recovery, and treatment program clients from Orange
County; Bill Boyles, who heads up the Won Way Out Christian Recovery program in
Wyoming, Delaware, and has distributed thousands of Dick B.’s books free; and
the leaders of Christian recovery work in the Golden Hills Community Church in
Brentwood, (Northern) California, and Cornerstone Fellowship, Livermore Campus
in Livermore, California.
Monty Meyer, who has
long produced widely-heard Christian recovery radio shows even attracting
listeners in Dubai, was interviewed to tell about www.Take12Radio.com in Oregon. And the archived talks of many other Christian leaders and
workers in the recovery arena are available on site.

Christian Recovery
Radio does not merely produce radio shows. Its Web site at www.ChristianRecoveryRadio.com makes much more available to the recovery
arena and its dedicated workers.
First, it presents Dick
B.’s ongoing radio interviews of the many recovery leaders Dick B. has met and
is meeting in the United States and elsewhere. Second, it features the Take 12
Radio shows of Monty Meyer which present a one hour “A.A. History with Dick B.”
show every Tuesday and continuing throughout the week. Third, there are many
free videos, audio talks, and tapes. Fourth, there are the increasing number of
Dick B. audios, videos, and talks on how to apply Christian Recovery today; the
A.A. roots in the Bible; the Christian origins of A.A.; and how Dick B. found
the answer to a friend’s question years back: “Dick, did you know A.A. came
from the Bible?”—and Dick B.’s search that began with DR. BOB and the Good Oldtimers and his attendance at the A.A.
International Convention in Seattle in 1990 to meet and hear those who were
laboring in the A.A. archives and history arena.

The Dick B. talks
are broadening the challenges and the resources. Today, his talks are not just
about A.A. history. They are about how to carry the message and how to help the
A.A. know of the tremendous role played by God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the
Bible in recovery for decades and decades and in early A.A., and that can be
applied today. They include the message of the Holy Spirit in A.A.’s roots.
They include Dr. Silkworth’s advice to Bill Wilson that Jesus Christ, the Great
Physician, could cure him of his alcoholism.
The Resurrected Importance,
Contents, and Two Differing Parts of the New Original 1939 Reprint of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Explanatory
Introduction by Dick B.
Particular emphasis
is being placed on the new reprint of the first edition of Alcoholics Anonymous just published by Dover Publications in 20111,
and on the 27-page introduction they requested and produced by Dick B.
explaining the complete difference between the personal stories about the
original program in that book and the “new version” of the program which Bill
fashioned in 1938 and 1939 and included in the book’s 11 chapters.
Repeated Emphasis on Early A.A.
and First Century Christianity; and on the Christian Origins of A.A. in
Organizations Such as the YMCA, Salvation Army, Rescue Missions, Great
Evangelists, Vermont Congregationalism, and Christian Endeavor
There is, and will
continue to be, further emphasis on the First Century Christianity principles
and practices that many commented on concerning early A.A. as they compared it
to the accounts in the Book of Acts. And still further emphasis on the
Christian origins of A.A. in the Young Men’s Christian Association, the Salvation
Army, Gospel Rescue Missions, addresses of the Great Evangelists like Dwight
Moody, Vermont Congregationalism, and the Young People’s Society of Christian
Endeavor which attained a membership of 4.5 million worldwide and in which Dr.

challenges today is that faced by those who, in A.A. and N.A. and treatment
meetings, try to share their own details about God, His Son Jesus Christ, and
the Bible, and are hindered over and over again.
